Becky: Well, we were married a year ago last June.

Spouse (Lewis): Ah huh, yes.

Becky: And we had discussed whether or not to have a baby together. And I think that is something that we both really want. And I had had the tubal and being good Christians we kept praying about and asking the Lord to show us what we should do. And one day I just said "God - (and I am one of those tangible people I need a solid) “Are you with us - should we proceed further than just praying about it. My sign to me will be if you allow Lewis to have a dream and allow him to tell me about it."

Dr. Berger: Hmmm.

Becky: Well, months went by and nothing and then. Well, you tell him.

Lewis: Scared me to death! I was home watching TV because Becky works at the lab at home and she works second shift. And I was watching TV and it hit me out of the clear blue sky. I wasn't thinking about it I hadn't even contemplated it. And our church is big on the dedication of new babies. Or pastor will bring the baby up and introduce him to the congregation. This is our newest member and whatever. I mean it was so clear the hair on the back of my neck just stood up. There was this little red curly haired girl with blue eyes. Dave was walking her around saying this Ester Alder Slate our newest member. And then I called Becky and said, "Hon, you are not going to believe this." She said, "I had better sit down." And I said, "You had better." I had to, too. I don't know. I had no earthly idea of even thinking about that. I wasn't even contemplating about having a baby. It just hit me out of a clear blue sky.

Dr. Berger: Hmmm.

Becky: So that's when I said, "Welml maybe we need to do just a little bit more than pray about this."

Dr. Berger: So then what happened?

Becky: So we went to see a surgeon in Knoxville, Tn. And…

Lewis: It was not a very good experience. We drove down from Bristol to Knoxville. It was a couple hours drive. And Becky walked in and he said, "You're 46. I can't do a thing for you." and just walked out. And that was it.And I hate to be critical of the man but it was, hey you're forty-six and it was like the cut-off for tubal reversal at 46 and turned and left.

Becky: And I turn 46 in March on the 24th and our appointment was in the first part of April. And I was like, how does my body know it is time to cut-off? I was like ya know? And so I did the day three FSH test. I am within the normal for that. And I got to looking on the web and I found your website, and I called, and Fran has been wonderful - I love her. She and Laura both have been very helpful in talking with me and answering questions and everything. And we watched some of the videos on the website. I was really worried about the BMI and according to your scale I have lost 56 pounds this past year.

Dr. Berger: No kidding?

Becky: And most of it was keep up with him. I am more of a sedentary type person and he is a retired Navy Seal, so this past year has been a more active one for me.

Dr. Berger: The way I look at it is, you are still menstruating and you even have a normal FSH. That says you have a good reservoir of eggs left.

Becky: Yes.

Dr. Berger: So if we do nothing than you certainly cannot get pregnant.

Becky: Right

Dr. Berger: But if I repair your tubes than there is definitely a chance that you will.

Lewis: You know, Becky and I both agree and she didn't want to go through the rest of her life saying, “what if”. And I totally understand that. And even if she only has a 5-10 percent chance? That is a 5-10 percent chance that Becky didn't have. And I am all for that.

Dr. Berger: Well that is how I feel about it also.

Becky: And I want to thank you for the opportunity to have that chance.

Dr. Berger: Well to me that issue is freedom of choice. Being that you are an adult and the two of you are now a couple. You talked, and to me it's a very powerful experience that you talked about what made you decide that this was the right experience for you. I respect that. So I feel like we also have that ability.
