Pregnancy Monitoring After Tubal Reversal
In this video, Dr. Berger explains the protocol for early pregnancy monitoring that he recommends to his patients when they become pregnant after tubal reversal procedures. Dr. Berger describes how following this protocol will be able to confirm that the pregnancy is developing normally in the uterus as quickly as possible and also can prevent tubal rupture in the event of ectopic pregnancy.
Pregnancy Monitoring After Tubal Reversal
Excerpt from Video Transcript
Dr. Berger: So lets talk about pregnancy monitoring for a few minutes okay? This is important, we went over it before the tubal reversal surgery when you came in and we had the preoperative discussion. I like to remind people about this. When your period is late run a home pregnancy test and when you get a positive pregnancy test, besides letting your OB doctor know that you're pregnant, I would like you to let me know right away.
Tubal Reversal Patient: Okay
Dr. Berger: You can use the Pregnancy Report Form on our website for that. It's a pretty simple form. It just asks for your name, when your last menstrual period started, and the date of the positive pregnancy test. A few questions like that. And that's one of the ways we document all of the pregnancies that occur among our patients. We keep this information in a computerized database. So once I get your report which I will get right away once you file it because it will come to me and I will respond to you to let you know I have received it. And I will let our tubal reversal nurses know that you are pregnant so that everyone is informed and I will then want to follow along with you during the next few weeks of your pregnancy. This is because you will be doing Early Pregnancy Monitoring and that's checking the blood level for the pregnancy hormone and that is HCG. You will do that twice a week and then when the HCG level reaches between 1500-2000, we want you to have a vaginal ultrasound exam. And that's the earliest time a pregnancy can be documented in the uterus. And what a normal pregnancy will show at that time is a little dark round structure called a gestational sac. We have all this information summarized on the website on the page entitled I'm Pregnant. I think you have looked at that before. And also that is where you can see the link to the Pregnancy Report Form.
