Excerpt from Video Transcript
"You're a woman that has had her tubes tied or ligated (technical term) and now are interested in trying to conceive again... the best choice is tubal reversal surgery for a majority of those women. Tubal reversal is less expensive than alternative, IVF. Reversal surgery with Dr. Berger is actually an easier process for the patients to go through… the surgery is only a 1 hour surgery and you recover within a week or two. Patients can start trying to conceive 2-4 weeks after surgery and they try naturally in 2 months.
Women who have tubal ligation surgery often do not know what type of ligation the doctor performed. Luckily Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubal ligations in about 98% of patients and there are several different types. The ligation resection technique where a piece of tube is cut out, the type where it is burned which is the coagulation method and some doctors use clips or rings… all of those are generally reversible.
Women deciding to tubal reversal surgery are in their twenties, thirties, forties, and some in their fifties . Pregnancy rates are shown by age on our Pregnancy Statistics page and you'll find the younger the patient the better the pregnancy rate. But we still have 40-42 years old still see a 50-60% pregnancy rate. And we have patients up to 47 years old that have delivered a healthy baby. Chapel Hill tubal reversal center sees patients from all 50 states and around the world. We have patients as far as Australia, New Zealand, Japan -of course, North Carolina as well. Patients that are coming from another state only have to come for one visit. They'll see Dr. Berger or Dr. Monteith for a consult the morning of their surgery. Surgery takes place the following morning. Every patient is seen the next morning for post op check and they generally go home after that."
