One Week After Tubal Ligation Reversal

Excerpt from Video Transcript

Dr. Berger: Tell me where you feel like you are in terms of recovery. It has been one week since tubal reversal surgery.

Michelle: I feel like I am well into the recovery. There are still certain movements where I can tell I had an incision. I don't sit up I have to roll. Walking, standing, sitting and cooking all that stuff is back to normal. Sleeping easily, the first few nights I was careful how I rolled. I'd say I am well into recovery.

Dr. Berger: Okay, are you having any particular problems that we should go over?

Michelle: No, not at all

Dr. Berger: Okay, and where are you in your cycle now?

Michelle: I am towards the end. I am expecting to start on Monday.

Spouse: Can the tubal surgery disrupt the cycle at all?

Dr. Berger: It can, sometimes the next period can come either early or late. Usually it pretty much comes on time. It's kind of hard to predict. Surgery being stressful can delay it. Sometimes during the surgery if it has to do with the ovaries and that gets affected it can make the period start early.

Spouse: So, with Michelle's surgery you said you had to take one tube out because it was inoperable.

Dr. Berger: Yes, well yours was an unusual situation and we really don't see this very often. You had old dark colored fluid in the short section of the tube. That was on your right side I believe. And there really wasn't a second segment and that tube really wasn't repairable. And that's why I took that segment out because that fluid that was in that tube if it had washed back into the uterus it could interfere with you getting pregnant. But your left tube is very healthy. I think the length was 5cm after the repair. So fortunately it only takes one fallopian tube to get pregnant.
